Yahoo Voice Chat Trough Mobile GPRS

Accident is mother of invention!

I was trying to chat with my wife and accidentally discovered a process by which you can voice chat using GPRS.

In Bangladesh and Africa, GPRS speed is very less. So if you connect your computer to internet through Mobile GPRS, in my experience, you are not like to succeed in voice chat through Google Talk or Yahoo Messenger. The internet speed will not be enough to allow good voice chat.

But, there is a 'but'. It was a discovery by accident. I invited my sister and wife to a 'conference' using (allowing connection to voice server) yahoo messenger. I found we could talk smoothly!

Sometimes the speed was as low as 1 kb/sec, but still we could talk. Believe it or not!

But we tried 'calling the computer' in Yahoo Messenger, it did not work smoothly. We could barely hear each other.

I was talking to my wife using MTN GPRS (South Africa based mobile company). They gave Free GPRS for few months as promotional campaign. Since it was free, speed was too less. But still I could talk to my wife in Bangladesh. Ultimately it was free for me.

Sad news is, MTN GPRS is not free anymore.

Afterwards I came to know that Yahoo uses a different technology from Google Talk or Skype, which allows the user to do conference voice chat (Talking to more than one person at a time). Something must be there in this 'Yahoo Voice Conference' which enables low speed voice data communication.
